RAMONES (C.B.G.B ROCK FESTIVAL)

We dig the Ramones (C.B.G.B Rock Festival) t-shirt because it’s historical. CBGB was a rock club in New York that launched the careers of punk rockers like Television, Blondie and The Ramones. The club is the birthplace of punk music and is an important icon in the history of music. Initially intended to be a Country, Bluegrass & Blues bar, CBGB was a platform for unsigned bands to showcase their music. CBGB only condition to the bands was to play their own material, and not cover songs. Later on, when CBGB’s reputation soared, it became the capital of rock music and attracted a long list of bands to perform there like AC/DC, Bad Religion, Crowded House, Dashboard Confessional, Guns N’ Roses, Joan Jett, Korn, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Runaways, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Sum 41 and White Zombie.

CBGB held its first Rock Festival in the summer of 1975, with The Ramones as the headliner. CBGB featured 40 unrecorded bands in this festival.

The Ramones, often regarded as the first punk rock band, revitalised rock with punk vibe and fast, raw sound. Although they achieved limited commercial success, they played an important role in changing the tunes of rock music.

CBGB finally closed down on 15 October 2006, after CBGB’s landlord, Bowery Residents Committee, refused to renew the lease. The Ramones, on the other hand, disbanded in 1996 after releasing their last studio album, Adios Amigos.
